Kit at a glance
Jadwiga fuses sword and sanctuary: Poland's military culture-bombs steal territory, her relics shine with extra faith, culture and gold, and cities her culture-bombs touch can convert to her religion. Fortresses expand the border and the faith at once.
Opening: the first 60 turns
Jadwiga's first fifty turns are a race to Astrology and a Holy Site with a district neighbor, because her adjacency bonus rewards packing the Holy Site against the city center or an early Campus rather than hunting mountains. Open with Scout, Slinger, Settler, then a second Settler before the Holy Site goes down; Poland wants three cities by turn 40 so that every capital-adjacent frontier has a spot for a Fort later. Civic-wise, Foreign Trade and Early Empire matter more than Craftsmanship, and slotting God King until the pantheon lands keeps the faith trickle alive. Save Bronze Working for the third or fourth tech: the Encampment culture-bomb is the whole reason to research it early, and placing that Encampment on the border facing your nearest rival decides how much land the next century of Poland gets.

How to play it
Build encampments and forts aggressively along contested borders — each culture-bomb is land and religious spread in one. Winged hussars shatter attackers; sukiennice trade halls fund the faith engine. A uniquely hybrid religious-military game.
Victory paths
The natural finish is a religious victory that arrives on the back of Forts rather than Missionaries. Every Encampment or Fort that flips foreign tiles also pushes Jadwiga's faith into the affected city, so a border studded with Forts converts neighbors passively while Apostles handle the far continent. Relics carry extra faith, culture and gold for her, which means a Reliquaries belief and a couple of Martyr promotions quietly open a culture route if the religious race is contested by two rivals at once. Domination is the pivot when a neighbor refuses to convert: Winged Hussars arrive at Mercantilism and push defenders off their tiles. Decide by the Medieval era; a Poland that dithers between the sword and the cathedral ends up with neither.
Synergies: city-states, wonders, policies
Religious city-states such as Yerevan, whose suzerain bonus lets Apostles pick any promotion, are the best envoy targets, and Valletta turns Poland's faith into city walls and Encampment buildings. Among wonders, Mont St. Michel hands every Apostle the Martyr promotion, feeding the relic engine, while Kilwa Kisiwani boosts the type bonuses, not the unique suzerain effects, of city-states such as Yerevan and Valletta. Victor belongs in the frontier city where Forts are going up, and Moksha later makes that city a religious-unit factory. Policy cards worth remembering: Limes for wall production near the Encampment cities, Scripture and Religious Orders once the faith economy is running, and the military card that Poland can slot into its spare wildcard, which is what makes her government uniquely flexible. For a pantheon, take whichever faith adjacency matches your Holy Site placement rather than a food belief.
Weaknesses and counters
The kit stalls on an isolated start: culture-bombs need foreign borders to steal from, so Poland alone on a continent gets a mediocre faith civ with a late unique unit. Opponents beat her by refusing to settle near her early Encampments and by denying a religion outright with an early Holy Site rush, since Jadwiga without a founded faith loses half her identity. Loyalty is the other lever; a rival with Amani or Bread and Circuses can flip the freshly stolen tiles' cities back. The most common self-inflicted wound is building Forts with Military Engineers where every neighboring tile already belongs to you, which wastes the charge, or placing the Encampment behind the city where the bomb hits nothing but ocean. Also do not delay Sukiennice: it is a Market, and Poland's gold is thin without it.
