MINOR_CIV_SINGAPORE_UNIQUE_INFLUENCE_BONUSStrategy guide
Each city gets +2 Production for each foreign civilization it has a trade route to. A city sending routes to five different civs gets +10 Production — a wonder-tier bonus for simply spreading its routes across different partners instead of stacking one.
Best civs & plans
Peaceful wide empires with many trade partners max it fastest; Portugal's boosted international routes make it a natural fit. Weakens in war-heavy games where partners dry up.
Envoy plan
Suzerainty is all Singapore needs, and the industrial-type rewards on the way are a natural companion: the first envoy speeds wonders, buildings, and districts in the capital and every Workshop city, the third does the same in Factory cities, and Singapore's own bonus is unrestricted production on top. Three envoys is the plan; six is worthwhile for a builder empire once Factories and Power Plants exist. Industrial city-states draw less AI attention than trade or religious ones, so the title is often available cheaply in the classical era for a player who has met two or three civs. Envoys from quests and early civics are enough — save Amani for a contested target — but keep a one-envoy cushion, because losing the title mid-game removes production from every city at once.
Value by era
Early on the bonus is limited by how many civilizations you have met and how many Traders you own, so an ancient-era suzerainty gives a couple of cities a modest boost at best. It scales through the medieval and Renaissance eras as trade route capacity grows and every civ on the map is contacted; a mid-size empire whose cities each reach three or four different partners is running a permanent production bonus comparable to an early Industrial Zone in every city. Late game it stays strong as long as peace holds, and it is one of the better late pickups: the check is live, so a modern-era suzerainty applies the same turn to every existing route, no rebuilding required.
Pitfalls and how to protect it
The count is taken city by city, so a player who sends every Trader out of the capital gets a large bonus in one city and nothing elsewhere; spread the origin cities and vary the destinations so each city touches different civilizations. Routes to city-states do not count — only foreign civilizations — which is a common source of disappointment for players who habitually trade with city-states for their quests. A war cancels the routes to that civ and drops the bonus immediately, and a plundered Trader does the same, so escort routes through barbarian country. Singapore is usually a small coastal city; if an AI takes it, a naval liberation is the cheapest fix and returns the title. In a game where partners keep dying, redirect envoys toward a city-state whose bonus you control.
Envoy bonuses
- 1 envoy+1 Production toward wonders, buildings and districts in your capital and in each city with a Workshop.
- 3 envoys+2 Production toward wonders, buildings and districts in each city with a Factory or a Consulate (+4 if the city has both).
- 6 envoys+3 Production toward wonders, buildings and districts in each city with a Power Plant or a Chancery (+6 if the city has both).
Envoy bonuses are shared by every city-state of the same type.
