Civ 6 Wonder Placement Guide
Cristo Redentor
Placement requirements

Unlock & cost
- Civic: Mass Media
- Production cost: 1620
Is it worth building?
Keeps relic and holy-city tourism from being weakened by rivals' Enlightenment and doubles Seaside Resort tourism — the religious-tourism capstone. If your culture game runs on relics or resorts, this closes it; otherwise skip.
Placement & timing tips
Hills requirement — keep a hill tile free in your relic-holding culture core. Time it right before your tourism push crests so the doubling multiplies your best decades.
When to build it — and when not to
- Build it when
- Build when relics or seaside resorts carry a visible share of your tourism and the victory screen says decades remain — the multiplier needs runway to compress that timeline.
- Skip it when
- Skip when your tourism lives in great works and wonders instead — theming buildings and the Eiffel Tower's appeal play raise that portfolio; this wonder would multiply a number close to zero.
Which city should build it
A hill tile and nothing else, and the benefit is empire-wide, so the host is simply your highest-production city with a spare hill; the relics and resorts it amplifies can live anywhere. That usually means the industrial capital with Factory, Power Plant and Ruhr Valley if you have it, where a Magnus chop and two builder charges finish it in a few turns. The hill should be one you were not mining; a mined hill on a river next to an Industrial Zone is worth more as a mine than as a pedestal. Coastal culture cities with resorts are tempting hosts, but they are usually production-starved by the modern era, and the wonder does not care who builds it.
Winning the race
Rarely contested outside religious culture games. Mass Media unlocks Broadway in the same breath, and AI culture leaders almost always prefer Broadway, so Cristo Redentor tends to be the second choice that goes unbuilt. The exception is a relic-hoarding rival such as a Mont St. Michel owner or a leader who ran a martyr-heavy religion; those civilizations reach for it. Secure it by finishing Broadway or Eiffel first only if you can, otherwise start this one immediately on unlock with a Gustave Eiffel charge held back for it. You are losing only if a religious culture rival with visible relic tourism has already unlocked Mass Media; everyone else will let it sit.
If you lose it: alternatives
Relic tourism has a direct substitute in the Reliquaries follower belief, which multiplies relic faith and tourism if your religion has taken it. Resort tourism lives on appeal, so the Eiffel Tower and the Conservation civic's tree planting raise those numbers without any hill. If relics were never your engine, the wonder was never yours to want, and the freed hammers should go into Broadcast Centers and rock bands bought with the faith your relics generate. A religious empire can also simply keep converting neighbors, since shared religion is a tourism multiplier that needs no wonder at all.
