Wonders that compete for the same tiles
From the placement data: these wonders share a placement requirement with Országház. A city meant to hold both needs a separate qualifying tile for each.
- Big Ben — both need a river
- Biosphère — both need a river
- Hanging Gardens — both need a river
- Hermitage — both need a river
- Ruhr Valley — both need a river
- Taj Mahal — both need a river
Is it worth building?
Extra diplomatic favor every turn from the city-states you are suzerain of — a steady engine for diplomatic victory and world-congress dominance. Modest on paper, but favor compounds into resolutions going your way for centuries.
Placement & timing tips
A river tile is the only hard requirement, so it can go in any river city. A must-contest for diplomatic victory runs; otherwise a pleasant luxury.
When to build it — and when not to
- Build it when
- Build on a diplomatic victory arc as the World Congress enters its decisive sessions — steady favor income lets you both buy victory points and bribe resolutions without selling your alliances' goodwill.
- Skip it when
- Skip when diplomacy is just your side hustle — favor sells for gold, but factories sell for everything.
Which city should build it
A river is the only hard requirement. The favor income is identical anywhere, so the fastest builder, an industrial-era capital or Factory city on a river, gets it done soonest and starts the favor clock earlier. Because Sanitation is off the science route for most players, plan the detour deliberately, and note that the Sewers it unlocks are a useful side benefit for tall river cities.
Winning the race
Rarely contested. The AI researches Sanitation late, only diplomacy-minded leaders such as Laurier and Kristina show interest, and even the Hungarian AI does not prioritise it, so it is usually still open in the modern era. The only reason to hurry is the World Congress calendar: work backward from the sessions that matter and start so it completes a few turns before them, driven by the Skyscrapers policy, a Factory and a power plant. An industrial-era Great Engineer with a wonder charge is not wasted here, since most other wonders of that era are contested harder and this one merely needs finishing. The losing sign is gossip that a diplomatic rival has Sanitation together with a visible jump in their favor stockpile. Even then, favor can be earned in plenty of other ways, so do not burn chops on it.
If you lose it: alternatives
Favor is plentiful without the Országház. Alliances pay more of it as their level rises, every city-state you hold as suzerain adds some, and governments themselves generate it by type; the Potala Palace adds a diplomatic policy slot on top, so a diplomatic plan that manages envoys and alliances well never runs short. Send the freed hammers into the Factory and a power plant. Industrial-era production is the seed money for every later wonder race and for the space projects, and favor can also be bought with the gold that production earns.
